Harvey & McNally in Co. Armagh
« on: Wednesday 13 July 05 17:50 BST (UK) »
My great grandparents were born in Co. Armagh, Ireland (according to the England 1871 Census).  Is there anyone out there who could help me to locate their place of birth and marriage.  (They were Catholic).

Patrick Harvey and Rose Harvey (nee McNally) were born, married and had their first five children in Co. Armagh

These are the dates I have:

Patrick Harvey  b.  1826
Rose Harvey (nee McNally)  b.  1831
Alice Harvey  b.  1853
Mary Harvey  b.  1854
Thomas Harvey  b.  1856
Patrick Harvey  b.  1859
Peter Harvey  b.  1861

The rest of the children were born in Leigh, Lancashire

I know it is difficult to find information from Ireland, but I hope someone out there can help me.

Sorry I did not get around to replying to you earlier!!!!  As far as I can gather all of my ancestors were Protestants. I have went back as far as the late 1600's. However there is a large contingent of Harveys in South Armagh. Try using your search enginewith "Harvey Cregganbane" or Harvey Clonalig. To my knowledge these are both in South Armagh near Crossmaglen. Also on the Genforum website there are a few posts researching the Harveys of Crossmaglen. Happy Hunting!

Just as a matter of interest one of my ancestors by the name of "Rose Harvey " was murdered according to the Belfast Newsletter Search in 1798. Her husband was Peter not Patrick . Totally unrelevant to your search but interesting to mine as their were two men ordered to be hanged for the murder but frustratingly I was unable to find the court records for same. I was hoping to know the whys and wherefores to it happening. Anyhow good luck with your search and if I can help let me know.

Thank you for your reply aljepeka.  Sorry did not reply sooner but I have been away over the holiday break.

I am getting absolutely knowhere in tracing my ancestors from Ireland, but I live in hope that one day someone will send me an e-mail with the information I am looking for.  I will certainly look up the Harveys  you mention in your e-mail and thank you.

My mother, Rose Harvey (b. 1917 with parents of Patrick and Catherine Harvey), seems to have some connection to the Harveys you mention.

The family farm was called Drummuckavall and can be found at this link http://islandmap.co.uk/cgi-bin/im.dll/link?MQJHU2L6247SA2G1JF8M

It is sometimes spelt Drumuckavaul. You will get loads of hits on Google.

I think the family name was originally Harvassey as can be seen at this link http://www.devlin-family.com/timelinedrummuckavall.htm

I have a huge number of cousins as they (John, Rose, Catherine, Agnes, Mary and May Harvey) had a lot of children

I hope that is of some help.

Sorry, I made a mistake. I should have written:

(John, Rose, Catherine, Agnes, Margaret and May Harvey)

I am very interested in this thread, especially the remarks about the Leigh connection.
I have been involved in research on Harveys (Harvesy)in Crossmaglen for some time. I now live in St Helens Merseyside, which is just down the road from Leigh. I am trying to link these Harveys with mine, who appeared in Widnes 0n the 1881 census.
I cannot find the Harvey/McNally marriage on the Creggan register but then my Harvey/Caffrey marriage was not there either. It might become worthwhile to confirm that Patrick Harvey/ Rose McNally marriage with Armagh Registry that would probably give you the parish if not the Townland.
Any or all of you posting here are welcome to contact me, I do have an extensive list of Harvey marriages culled from research.
I know my Patrick Harvey married Catherine Caffrey in 1842 they had had least four children, Peter, Bernard, and twins Mary and Ann.
Peter was my great grandfather and I know he lived and died in England. I do not really know what happened to the others.
I would be most interested if anyone has a Harvey/Caffrey connection but welcome other Harvey links.

Hello
I am looking for Rose Harvey who married Peter Mulgrew who was born around 1800. They had two children at least, Patrick born 29th December 1827 and Rose born July 1825 probably in Crossdal/Tynan

Patrick grew up and married sarah May in Armagh Cathedral in 1854 and moved to scotland.
I am having great trouble locating the records in ireland and would greatly appreciate some help.

Also looking for an Ellen o'Riley or Riley who married a Mulgrew in this part of Ireland
Thanks for any help you may be able to give
