Old panoramic rolled photo about 100 yrs. old
« on: Thursday 15 October 15 19:17 BST (UK) »
Hello Group, am hoping someone can give me help on old panoramic rolled photo about 100 yrs. old that I have inherited. It is very fragile and has places where the paper is almost torn into. I haven't unrolled it but just a couple winds because of this.
Am needing help as to how to approach getting this unwound with out doing more damage. As well as not ruining it because I did something wrong. There's not another around like it and would feel horrible if I ruined it.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bev

I have never done this, and if it were me and it was an important document, I would advise that you took it to an expert.  Having said that, I did find an article online that you might find interesting?  At least it's worth a read.

I have been doing genealogy research for myself & others for many years, just because I love it.

I moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in 2001 and just recently have got into photo restoration.

I am using an older version of Paintshop Pro XI on an even older pc :) & I want to thank in advance all who are helping me on this journey with my new hobby.

Anybody needing NC, VA research, just ask me!

As usual I try to tackle things myself. However, I am leaning more for a person who knows what they were doing. Thanks for the link, I will check it out.
Thank you Jane for replying.

Hi,
Contact a museum or a conservator of old films - you might find they are the best to advise you.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Contact the conservation department at your local studies library or archives centre.

They are used to handling documents and should be able to suggest the best course of action (which might be to leave it rolled up in the long term)
