my grans name is Nellie Boyd and they married in Birmingham she was there during the war didn't even think I could get the marriage certificate

Thank you will do it now bought loads from Ireland haven't even thought about Scotland. Think as David's death certificate didn't have mothers name on it, I didn't think this was routine

Mothers maiden name was routine in Scotland from the early days of civil registration, but not in the rest of the UK unfortunately

Next mystery is what happened to John Boyd her son

It is interesting that the first Samuel Boyd, born 1890, was named Samuel Cowan Boyd, I assume he died. and then the later Samuel Boyd is your grandfather (And his father is also listed as Samuel Cowan Boyd)

That's fantastic, I will also see if I can find Marys birth certificate although with a name like brown may end up back in Scotland
