Charles Duncan family of Clyde Bank Cottage

I usually post on the Australia board, but I currently have a roadblock in Scotland.

I have found various census records showing Charles and Barbara Duncan and family residing at Clyde Bank cottage from 1841 to 1881.  The following is the 1851 census listing:

My problem is I am unable to find any Birth records on ScotlandPeople for the children.

Any suggestions were to continue my research would be appreciated.

Hi Stuart ,

Looking at the 1851 Census transcriptions at FreeCEN Clyde Bank Lodge would appear to be in Renfrew Renfrewshire.
Also showing two other children -

I think some 'sideways' research will be required to find the births you are looking for and hopefully, you'll be able to find these elusive births.

Found one of their children's marriage:

On 24th February 1865 at Ferry Road, Renfrew
After Banns according to the Forms of the Free Church of Scotland
John Duncan, age 24, Engineer, residing at Clydebank, Renfrew
Son of Charles Duncan, Ship Builder and Barbara Duncan nee McLeod
Mary Pride, age 20 (or 26?), residing at Kinross
Daughter of Robert Pride, Mason and Mary Pride nee Mattison?
Married by: David Wilson, Minister
Witnesses: Archibald Downie & Thomas Mattison?

I'm not entirely sure if the 'Free Church' records are on S.P. (I can never remember which are and which aren't), but if it's the case that the family were 'Free Church', then unfortunately, it might not be possible to find the births/baptisms as they appear all to have been born prior to Statutory Registration in 1855.

Not even a hint of their births in SP, although I did spot Charles Will. 

Given that no children are recorded in SP, it is likely they were members of a nonconformist church and if those records survived, would be at the NAS.

My census info is from the ScotlandPeople website from which I get most of my Scottish information.
1851 Census - Oops, missed the last 2 entries (Anne 8 and Charles Angus - Nephew, 1)
1861 Census - some interesting points
> that Charles Angus is now a grandson,
> his 1 Jan 1850 Birth Registration shows his parents as Andrew Lockerbie and Isabella Duncan,
> Andrew and Isabella married on 2 Sept 1848, but Isabella is listed on the 1851 census as Unmarried.
1871/81 Census
Anne, I don't believe Mary Duncan, grand daughter, is the daughter of Robert and Marta.  I believe she was born on 29 Dec 1865 to John and Mary (nee Pride) Duncan at Renfrew  (according to Birth Register).  John & Mary married in Renfrew on 24 Feb 1865 (Scotlandpeople).
1891/1901 Census - I agree with your summary

I have searched ScotlandPeople for OPR & Catholic births using just surname "Duncan" and parents names "Charles" and "Barbara" for the period 1825 and 1855 over all Scotland with nil relevant results, hence my starting this thread.

Don and Anne, thank you for the suggestions of nonconformist church and NAS.  Something to add to my to do when I next visit the UK.

Further:
there is an Ancestry Tree "Lockerbie" which lists Charles Duncan and Barbara McLeod and their children.  I put some questions to the tree owner, but to date I haven't heard back from the Tree's owner.
