Thanks.  I have some notes on the colony of immigrants from Ulster that settled on the Minnesota/Dakotah Territory border after the Civil War.  I think Charles Canning was the son of Henry Canning (buried in the Bannagher C of I churchyard in the late 18th c.).   I'll look for my notes and comment further.  Charles Canning imported into Minnesota the first Thoroughbred racehorse, Lord Salisbury.

correction: Henry Canning, born late 18th c., buried in churchyard at Banagher (C of I).

I think there were two Charles Canning's in Hendrum at the same time. Charles (c1842-1894) son of Henry and Sarah Canning of Banagher and the younger Charles (c1865-1949) son of Robert Canning and Mary Wilson of Tobermore. It is interesting to note that the younger Charles married a Mary Canning.
