Stapleton Family
« on: Saturday 10 October 15 01:52 BST (UK) »
hi there, my great grand aunt Jennie/Jenny Balaam born to parents Thomas Balaam/Ann Balaam in 1891 ipswich was married to an Arnold Stapleton in 1920. They had 2 children Leonard Charles stapleton and mona evelyn stapleton. I am hoping to connect with some people who may be a bit more familiar with stapleton's than I am--- this is my starting point. on my grandmothers marriage certificate of 1945 A Robert W stapleton was a witness at their marriage. Marriage of L.T Humphries and Muriel J Balaam.

please get a hold of me if you have any info. thanks

Using FreeBMD (www.freebmd.org.uk), this looks a good bet for Arnold's birth?

Births, March qtr 1894
Walsingham Registration District     vol 4b, page 296

Stapleton, Arnold

Do you have the marriage certificate for Arnold and Jennie?
His father would be named on there, and that would make him easier to find in censuses.

1901 census shows Arnold living in Ipswich, with parents James & Hannah.
Arnold born in West Raynham, Norfolk.
West Raynham is one of the many parishes within the Walsingham Registration District.

Arnold died in 1976, in Ipswich.
His date of birth is shown on the death registration as 26 January 1894.

I don't have access to detailed census, but the following Stapleton's are all living in Ipswich:

James    b 1861 (age 40)
Hannah  b 1864 (age 37)
Wilfred   b 1884 (17)
Algernon b 1886 (15)
Herbert   b 1889 (12)
Francis    b 1892 (9)
Arnold     b 1894 (7)
Grace      b 1897 (4)

And a marriage:
December qtr 1883
Walsingham district     vol 4b, page 821

Stapleton, James W
Watts, Hannah

I think that Wilfred on the 1901 census is actually Robert Wilfred - which matches the witness name of the 1920 marriage ;D

Births, March qtr 1884
Walsingham district     vol 4b, page 306

Stapleton, Robert Wilfred

Other births, also in Walsingham district:
1886 - Algernon Leonard
1889 - Herbert William F
1891 - Francis Guy L
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you kindly for the information. your research is good and likely is the correct information.
It would also match the Robert W. that can be found on my grandparents marriage cert.
Also i looked at Robert W a bit more and found that he lived at 37 bulstrode road ipswich, from his military records, which is where my grandparents lived for a short time as well. This was also right next to my great grandparents house at 35- also where my grandmother was born. given that my great grand aunt was married to a stapleton- I am sure it is all linked somehow and they got to know one another.
