Trying to find any info on Ernest Alfred Bonnett born 1881 at Chatham, Kent.

We already have BMD birth, and 1881 and 1891 Census info.  Looking or any details after 1891.

Hi,

Is the Census info in the last 2 posts correct for your Ernest A Bonnett?

If so you will note that a different place of birth is given for him in both Census, so could this be
him in the 1901 Census
Vessel - Pembroke (3), Chatham Kent

Ernest Bonnett 20 (1881)  Guildford Surrey.

In previous census it appears that the place of birth was given as the place the family were resident,
he would have been only 11 when his mother died so was he placed in a children's home in Guildford Surrey.

This is only an idea, but I cannot find a birth for an Ernest Bonnett 1880-1881 in Surrey.

Thanks for the replies.

The family story has it that when Susannah died. Austin, the oldest son, took responsibility for his younger brothers and sisters, and some of them can be found living with him in the 1901 Census.  It is possible that Ernest wasn't included and did go to live in Surrey, but I do tend to believe the 1901 Bonnett was just a sailor who happened to be in Chatham dockyard on the night of the census.

The rest of Ernest's brothers and sisters have all been traced after 1890, it just seems strange that Ernest seems to have vanished.  Of course it could be that he emigrated, or worked his passage to some foreign shore.

There is an Ernest A Bonnett, listed in WW1 Medal Cards, NOTE transcribed as Ernest Bonnett on Ancestry however if you look at the actual card it is Ernest A.

The same person appears, correctly named, on the "Lives of the First World" site:-

However there must have been many E A Bonnet's - so yet again another avenue to search.

There is a merchant navy seaman Ernest Alfred Bunnitt born 26 March 1881, London
AB 379302 with photo.
Unlikely ,as he  would have had to be registered pretty quickly to sneak into JFM 1881 registrations.
