Probably a needle in a haystack.  Ann McGuire father Thomas born 1828/29 Ireland.  That is all I have.She moved to UK and first shows up on 1861 census with the start of her children.  She had 4 children, no father named before she married in 1872 to a William Johnston a widower.  On the marriage cert it stated she was a spinster and her father was Thomas McGuire.  I know she was a Catholic.  So any suggestions would be helpful.  My brickwall starts with her.  I have all the info about her children, her death in UK

No, a needle in a huge field of haystacks.  :)

You need to narrow her down from GB records / information to an Irish parish and townland.

If she was a Catholic, she would have had the children baptized.  The baptismal records may contain information about where she came from in Ireland.

That the problem, only ever said Ireland on any GB records, her children all had no father recorded, so would they have been baptisted, I think not.  All her children were born in Dunston, County Durham.  Thomas, James, Bridget and Roseanne. 

I have wondered if her mother was a Bridget as with naming children after there parents.

Yes, almost certainly, those kids were baptized, if she was Roman Catholic.  There are many illegitimate children who show up in the records; usually shortly after their birth, as they didn't want to have a child die who had not been baptized, and not get to heaven.  A sin greater than having a child out of wedlock.

I haven't been able to find any baptisms for her or children. As I live in New Zealand, I have no idea where to start.

From what I've found, three Catholic churches in the area -- St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Cathedral, and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

St. Mary's Cathedral is on the other side of the river in Newcastle, but is the biggest and has a website, so I would start asking there where the parish records for Dunston would be kept:

Thank you I will try St Mary's.  I know that later they went to St Joseph's in Blaydon, I did email them years ago but no reply.
