Baptism on 10 Apr 1842 or 16 Apr 1842
« on: Wednesday 07 October 15 14:40 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My great grandfather Edward Evans was baptised at St James Church, Walwyn's Castle Pembrokeshire. IGI transcribes the date as 16 Apr, Saturday. Could it be 10 Apr, Sunday??

Hi Josey,
I read somewhere that '6' was written with a horizontal stroke at that time. Hence the IGI transcription. Were baptisms done on a Saturday at that time, as I assume it would have been a working day?

It's a rainy day here in Yorkshire  ;D ;D

Will try to find other examples of 0 & 6 of the era.

It's a 10 from me too.  :)

Are you able to look at baptisms on other pages - search for examples of 0s and 6s in the same handwriting, just to satisfy yourself that it is a 0.

I would agree 10.  The entry before it is also a Sunday baptism.

Your image is misleading as it shows 1841  ;D

Hi,

There are 2 entries on Familysearch:-

Using Batch number C08323-1 you have a transcription 16th April 1842,

the other is Findmypast transcription (option to view their image) which shows 10th April 1842.

Note both state 1842, however the image you show states 10th April 1841.

Hi,
Thanks for your efforts!! Note:
1. I have the other conflicting transcriptions! Hence the difficulty!!
2. Sorry, I truncated the baptism page, ie the top entry, which was in 1841, and others have been cut out. Sorry about that.
Thanks for other suggestions. Were baptisms always on Sunday, apart from'special' days?
Regards
Ian
