I am researching my maternal grandfather, John Franklyn Rogers b 09 Sep 1896 Liverpool to John Rogers and Margaret O'Connor.
Sent to Quebec, Canada as a home child on board the Tunisian in May 1908.  Ended up in Toronto, Ontario.  Married Elsie Mildred Johnston in 1923.  Worked for many years for Harold F. Ritchie Co., Ltd.

That first line of my post is all we know of his history.  Other than the names of his parents and his birth date/place we know nothing else about his family in England.
I have been unable to find him in the 1901 UK census, or the 1911 Canada census.  I do have him for the 1921 Canada census.
I am looking to trace his family in England and, who knows, discover some long lost cousins!

I've noticed that on one of the documents attached to an online tree of John Franklyn Rogers that a John Rogers emigrated through the Salvation Army of the Union of Portslade(near Brighton?).Do you know if this is your John? and if it is have you tried contacting the SA to see if they have any records from around this time?

It might be worth considering what children's home John Franklyn could have lived in prior to him being sent to Canada. Not in my field of knowledge really so I am just making suggestions off the top of my head.

So had another delve around....in 1908 John travelled to Canada with Catholic Emmigration Association? There is another John Rogers,age 10 in 1906 but travelled with Dr Barnados. Have you definite evidence that the 1908 one is your John?

The 1908 John Rogers is definitely my Rogers.  I have had contact with Barnardos and they have ruled out the 1906 John.
I am not sure if the Portslade John is mine, I have not been able to confirm this yet. I have emailed S.A. but have not heard back.  The tree you were looking at was probable mine (on Ancestry?).
Might it have been a normal practice for the CEA to transport youth for the SA??
