Isabella and Sarah Bind/Bund, surname unclear on will dated 1853
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 05:37 BST (UK) »
In my ancestor's will he provides an annuity to an Isabella Bind/Bund daughter of Sarah. However, I am not certain of the surname. The will was written in 1853 and my ancestor Peter Mawdsley of Pouton cum Seacombe in Cheshire died in 1856 aged 92 . Isabella was probably a natural daughter of Peter.
I have had no luck in tracing either an Isabella or Sarah under the above surnames. I'm presuming the first letter is B, although the remaining letters are unclear. Any assistance appreciated

In my opinion, the surname is definitely Bind.

Could it possibly be Bins do you think?    :-\

I can see where you are coming from with Bind - just throwing in another possibliity

The last letter could be an s if the will were from 1653.

In 1853, it's a d.  Compare thousand & hundred with the final s on pounds.

Yes!  I see     :)

- and I did look at other 'd's and 's's   - I agree really . . . .

- just a thought - in case it was written in a hurry.
Just wondering if it were any use looking for a Bind as Bind hasn't turned up anything.

I read the name as Hind.

Looking at the rest of the will and others in the same register, the capital B in this hand is more elaborate at the top.

ADDED - Here's a clip from another will in the same register (Rev. Henry Moore, image 45 of 407), showing the distinction between capitals B and H

Agreed, Bookbox, the clip is pretty clear.

My apologies to Lisamaw for posting wrong information.

Thanks to everyone for looking at the writing.
To Geoff-E we did look at that Isabella Bend, but discounted her due to the age of Peter, who would have been about 80 in 1843. Although, if all else fails I may apply for the certificate.
To Bookbox, didn't think of Hind-so will follow that up with much thanks.
