Hi,
could some one please look up the marriage between Rebecca Scott and Thomas Hayward 8/11//1823 in Wye, Kent.
Am interested in who were the witnesses.
Have checked the entries for births of John Macey in Charing, Kent. There are none.Interestingly there are Austens in the area. Has anyone seen an illegitimate birth to any Austens around 1799.
Thanks
Sue

The marriage actually took place in Brook on the same date.

The witnesses were Mary Mercer by mark and
John Cullen, Clerk.

See my earlier posting for the baptisms (3no.) to Frances Austen at Charing including John in 1798.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the reply. Looked up Frances Austen, looks like she did marry James Jackson. So frustrating that I can't find a link to the Macey family. Stranger still Thomas Hayward had a son called George Austen Hayward born in 1823. Add to that John Austen Macey and Mary Scott were married on the same day as Thomas. Too many coincidences or are they just that.
Looked to see if Frances remarried and I can't find another marriage at all.
Who were the witnesses at Frances' marriage.
Also the Mary Mercer...the Macey family have been known to use that name too even in the same family.
All in all a strange and tangled web.
Regards
Sue

The witnesses to Frances' marriage to James Jackson were
John Austen and Thos. Hyder (Clerk or Church Warden as the name appears frequently around 1803)

You may find the link one day but sometimes there does not appear to be any family connection!

Happy hunting,
Tony

Hi Tony,

Looks like you are probably right. Could you do a big favour and look up the following witnesses to these marriages.

John Macey and Mary Ransom 1/2/1743
Thomas Macey and Jane Partridge
John Massey and Mary Ord Palmer Dowling

Looking for a marriage between William Macey  born 1777 and Sarah
And also the age if possible of John Macey buried Wye in 1761

Really appreciate your help.

Many Thanks

Sue

Sue,

The first two marriages being before 1754 will not have the witnesses recorded!

The marriage of John Macey to Mary Ord Palmer (nee Dowling?) was witnessed by Mary Varnon (my reading) her mark and Joseph Marsh.

There was no age noted on the burial of John Macey in 1761 at Wye.

I have not found any marriage between a William Macey and a Sarah.  Do you know when and where there first child was born?

Tony

Hi Tony,

Yes one of their children were born in Wye, Kent in 1821 Emily Macey.

Have found Sarah Attwater in Iwade 1827. Not too sure if that's the one though.
1851 Census has a William Macey in Willesborough, Kent. Pauper. Has him marked down as a sailor.
 Thanks
Sue

Sue,

Five children baptised at Wye, to William and Sarah Macey,

Mary 1818,
Samuel 1821, buried the same year aged 4 months,
Emily1822,
Amy 1828,
Ann 5 May 1831, buried 8 May as an infant.

Mother Sarah Macey buried (also) on 8 May 1831 aged 39.

Still no sign of a marriage locally.

Iwade is quite a long way from Wye.  On the basis that William Macey and Sarah had a child Mary Ann baptised at Iwade on 12 October 1828, it seems pretty remote that the Iwade couple is yours, especially as Amy Macey was baptised on 25 January earlier that year at Wye.

William Macey buried 5 June 1852 from East Ashford Union House aged 72.

Maybe of some use.

All the best,
Tony
