TEAGUE - Fordingbridge/Hampshire
« on: Saturday 19 September 15 15:38 BST (UK) »
Hi all, im stuck trying to find a birth for Meshach Teague.
I have one of his daughters Eliza (1839-1920) who married George Gouge (1838-1910) in 1859 in Fordingbridge where they were both from, and another Lucy (1860) married Harry Chubb.
I have Meshach on census documents as being born in Hampshire dob 1816 with wife Mary and having 8 children but I cant find a birth for him. Any ideas?

Not finding Meshach but there is an Abel & Abednego both baptised in Fordingbridge 1822 & 1815 on FindMyPast free index. Quite likely they are brothers of his (Also a Shadrach)

Rosie

ADDED familysearch also have those baptisms

The only Teague children baptised in Fordingbridge during that timeframe are
George (bpt.May 1803)
William (bpt.Sep 1807)
Martha (bpt.Mar 1809)
Josiah (bpt.Dec 1810)
Eliza (bpt.April 1813)
Shadrack (bpt.Mar 1817)
Maria (bpt.Dec 1820)
Abednego (bpt.July 1822)
Abel (bpt.Jul 1825)
All are to William and Elizabeth** (possibly the William and Elizabeth (Jefferis) who married in Fordingbridge in Feb 1801. They are mentioned in the earlier baptisms to be of Sandleheath, a small hamlet west of Fordingbridge towards the county border with Dorset (possibly another avenue for investigation)
(** Martha is to William and "Betty", but ...... :) )
A lot of biblical names, and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego seem to go together in that context if Googled.

Thanks for the info so far. I wonder why there is a gap in the transcriptions. Will look into the other Teague names and see if there is a link.

I decided to try a Public Member Tree search on Ancestry (only a search as im not a paying member). I searched for Meshach's daughter Eliza born in 1839 with Mothers name Mary. A couple of trees came up in the search but with different names/spellings of Meshach. Mishach, Meshack and even a Michael. One tree had a wifes name of Mary Gray. Am going to search again but for a marriage and see where that takes me.

It is only Knightroots that has that gap - 23 pages of the baptisms. This is a private site (i.e. not commercial) and is far from complete.
The list in my earlier post is from a more complete source. I have now gone through it one by one, in case something could have been misread/mistranscribed, for the period most likely - between Eliza and Shadrack (biggest gap of births and ties in with the estimated age based on census) but no likely suspects. It is possible that there was no baptism.

In case you don't know FindMyPast have a calendar of prisoners in Winchester Gaol (January 1835) in which a 19 year old Meshack Tague is mentioned.
