ST PETERS/ST ANDREWS DROITWICH - Marriage
« on: Saturday 19 September 15 01:31 BST (UK) »
Hello!

I was wondering if anyone would be able to look up a marriage for me? It should be in either St Peters (where the bride was born) or in St Andrews (where the children were christened) - I thought those would be the most obvious. The groom is from Exeter, so I doubt that they got married there.

Groom: Joseph Price (born abt 1811)
Bride: Caroline (born abt 1814)

Their fist child was named Mary Ann Gregg Price on her baptism (1835) and Mary Ann Grey Price on her burial (also 1835). Both of these are FamilySearch transcriptions so I assume one of Gregg/Grey is correct. Could Gregg/Grey be Caroline's maiden name? The marriage must be somewhere around 1835 because of this daughter and their subsequent children.

Other helpful info - Joseph is described as a Waterman in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census'. Any note on skin colour would be much appreciated if it's in the records - one of their granddaughters definitely has a black ancestor, so trying to trace the mystery of who it is!

The marriage records aren't online and I'm not sure when I can get to the archive, so any info is great appreciated :)

I will be going into Worcester in the next week or so and will look it up in the Hive. It will be easy to check as they have index of all pre 1837 marriages.

Hi Kay,

That would be fantastic! This is part of my enquiry into Ada Bunch which I have posted on the Warwickshire board (she lived in Aston), if you're interested in why I'm looking :)

Found the marriage I think - In Hampton Lovett - 6 Feb 1835 Joseph Price to Caroline Jinks both single and of the parish of St Andrew, Droitwich Joseph signed and Caroline made her mark- with witnesses Thomas and Lucy Pittaway

I checked their children's baptisms and Joseph is listed as a waterman - nothing  relating colour mentioned

The  baptism of Caroline Jenks in 1815 at St Peters Droitwich- her father William  listed as a Lavourer.

The possible marriage of William Jenks to Jane Hammonds on 30 June 1814 at St Marys Kidderminster- Both were listed as single and of the parish   Witnesses listed as Mary Hammond and William Nicholas

I think in 1841 Jane Jenks is listed as Jane Jincks age 67 and living with Edward Jincks 30??  at  Friar St,  St Nicholas Parish, Drotiwich

Hope its of use Kay

Kay you're a star! I'll screen shot this and out it on the Ada Bunch thread so that I can update everyone who has been helping me there. Thank you so much!

That's great thank you. Did the marriage record say who Joseph Price's father was?

Sadly not - It is rare for pre 1837 marriage records to mention a father
