Eliabeth KEHOE
« on: Friday 04 September 15 09:44 BST (UK) »
Hi I have an Elizabeth Kehoe who arrived in Victoria Australia in 1873 aged 48 and a widow. I have her death details so i know she never married again.  Her niece Jane Rumbold aged 13 followed her out there on the Theopane and arrived in October 1874.  I have lots of info on Jane she married a Ernest William Albert Wendt and had 9 children.  I also have her death details.
I would like to know if Jane went to her Aunty and were they lived, what kind of work they did, and also if any other family members were there.  I don't know if you have census's but if any one could find any information i would be very grateful.  It has puzzled me for a long time how a girl of 13 could go so far on her own.
Thanks
Lin

On 1861 census Elizabeth KEHOE was living with her sister in law Margaret RUMBOLD and Jane is 5 months of age.

Elizabeth is noted as a "Wife' on the passenger manifest not Widow.

There are no surviving census in Australia other than some very early ones.

I notice that Elizabeth died at Northcote - the suburb where the Little Sisters of the Poor housed the aged and infirm.

Hi Cando
Thanks very much for all that information.  I have the 1861 census and i have a sheet from ancestry from a long time ago and she is listed as a widow on that.  It actually says just Wid so maybe.  She is a widow on the 1861 census.  Jane Rumbold i am sure about as i have a cutting out of an Australian newspaper when she was getting married and it lists her father as William Rumbold from Liverpool and says she is one of 3 daughters.  All this is correct.
I can't access the will not sure why.
Thanks again for taking the time to look for me much appreciated.

Hi Cando
I accessed the will today at the library.  I may send for Jane Wendt's will but i presume she left everything to her children.  Thanks again for your help
