william evans france british subject

Hi

l am researching my family name of Evans in wales and came across my distant grandfather William Evans Born around 1813 and wife Sarah and Children, l have them in the 1851 living in welshpool wales ,1861 living Newtown wales ,and 1881 Census living Newtown Wales but can not find William Evans and his wife sarah in any other or at all which l thought wouldn't be difficult as the Three census I have it states that William Evans was Born in France and was a British Subject.

Williams Birth place has also become a problem as there is a slight clue on where in France he was born on the 1861 Census the area is there but think it has been transcribed incorrectly and is Transcribed as (Telcancenos France) but l can not find such place connected to France.

Any help with finding the missing Census for William would be most appreciated or indeed any information on him also any suggestions of sites connected to France that l may find helpful will be Very Welcome.

Thank you

Hi there,

To find him in France we will need to figure out where in France. Can you show us part of the image in 1861 that shows the place name?

Do you have his marriage certificate to Sarah? His father's occupation could help determine why the family might have been in France.

I thought it looked like it could be two words...the last part could be an attempt at Cannes  ??? and the Provinces would be very different then. Shame that FindMyPast records British Subjects Born in Others Countries doesn't begin until 1818.

Look like one word to me but beginning with 'V'.
