Glaister's of Birkenhead
« on: Tuesday 01 September 15 06:32 BST (UK) »
Looking for those who may have Glaister's in their family tree from Birkenhead.

I have a George Glaister who had a son George Glaister in 1883. George Glaister married Sarah Alison GRAHAM in 1912. Her parents were John Edwin GRAHAM and Emma GURD also from Birkenhead.

No further information at this stage (the Glaister's are proving difficult to find).

Thanks!

Do you have census information for the family?

Looking at FreeBMD, the only close in time George Glaister births are:

September qtr 1882
Whitehaven district     vol 10b, page 612
Glaister, George

and

December qtr 19941884
Cockermouth district     vol 10b, page 542
Glaister, George

So, are you sure he wasn't originally from Cumberland?

I was wondering the same KGarrad. Looking at the 1891 census there are not many Glaisters and the majority are in that neck of the woods. I can't see one b 1883 with a father George though.

I think we need to consider variations in spellings of this surname too.

Did George and Sarah's marriage certificate give his father's name as George?

Do you have the birth certificate of George b 1883? If so what is his mother's name.

December qtr 1994
Cockermouth district     vol 10b, page 542
Glaister, George

1884?  ;)

(It's usually the other way around for me - I write 1890 instead of 1990  ;D)

Thank you :)

I think the 1882 birth record in Whitehaven district is a possible match but am holding off purchasing it as I have ordered the marriage certificate of George Glaister which may tell me where he was born/his parents.

I have a 1891 Census record which may be a possible match too.

Sorry I could have posted this in the Cunberland topic but I wasn't 100% sure yet.  :-[

Cheers! :)

What led you to believe that his father was George?

Looking at the 1891 census I'd guess his father might be John, assuming you have his year of birth correct. Where did you get his year of birth of 1883 from?

You can request that this be moved to Cumberland at a later date. What led you to believe that he was from Birkenhead?

No birth certificate as yet. The 1883 date is taken from family knowledge at the moment. I have ordered the marriage certificate of George Glaister and Sarah Graham so when I have that I will order the birth certificate.
