I have found a record on

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/index.aspx

For a Sydney Ellis arriving in Adelaide in 1932 on the Largs Bay.  His address was given as c/o Mrs JH Davies, Rialto Street Renmark.

Although Renmark and Wentworth are about 145 kilometres apart it was not uncommon for people  to travel that far in those years for work.
James -Victoria, Australia originally from Keynsham, Somerset.
Janes - Keynsham and Bristol area.
Heale/Hale - Keynsham, Somerset
Vincent - Illogan/Redruth, Cornwall.  Moved to Sculcoates, Yorkshire; Grass Valley, California; Timaru, New Zealand and Victoria, Australia.
Williams somewhere in Wales - he kept moving
Ellis - Anglesey

Thank you CassT

I've found the passenger list, I'm now going to look at the other links that you gave.

Also Nanna52, that address in Renmark was his sister Rose who was already in Australia and had married there.(I do have all her details)

Would still like the where and when of the marriage, if possible.

Thank you all
Bee

It may not be easy to find the marriage Bee as privacy laws are pretty strong here.  At least we have found when he originally arrived.

Not a problem, just like to fill in the blanks.  All help is greatly appreciated.

One further question, Syd's sister Rose died in Brighton SA, would that be anywhere near were Syd & Lil died assuming that the deaths CassT found are the right ones.

Australian Electoral Roll
1937 NSW Supplemental Roll Darling/Wentworth
ELLIS Sydney  Pomona  Labourer

http://www.wentworth.nsw.gov.au/history/towns.php?go=#pomona

Sydney would have more than likely travelled by train from Mildura to Melbourne and enlisted at Caulfield.  I am involved with family and local history albeit in an adjacent area and have many photos of local men taken at railway stations prior to their departure for Melbourne to enlist in WW2.

The cremation records for Sydney and Lilian have formerly of Glynde, which is an eastern suburb of Adelaide.  Brighton is a coastal suburb.  Search google maps.

Why don't you purchase Sydney's WW2 service file as there is the possibility of correspondence post his discharge in 1945.

Victorian marriages available to 1942, South Australian are to 1937 and NSW to 1964.

You have the option of purchasing Sydney's death certificate which would have the following information.

SA Marriage: 1931#329/516 DAVIES, John Hector and ELLIS, Rose; Adelaide
http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Davies-4052 ..."John and Rose were married at the office of the Registrar General, Flinders Street, Adelaide on 28 November 1931. Witnesses at the wedding were Alma Wyatt (John’s sister) and Alma’s husband, Ray Wyatt, who at that time, lived at Peterhead, near Port Adelaide.

In 1935, Rose received news from England advising her that her older sister, Nancy Stone, had died soon after giving birth to twins, who also died. Nancy also left three children, Ken, Enid, and Rodney, who were being cared for by a grandparent.

Rose and Jack travelled to Hull, and brought Rodney, aged five years, back to Renmark, where they formally adopted him on 22 September 1936, naming him Rodney Stone Davies. Jack and Rose had no children of their own."

Adding: Renmark Cemetery: DAVIES, Rodney Stone age 51y; Date of Burial 19/11/1982

Email address is on the index page.  Please ensure you note the cemetery name and photograph number in your request.

However as you mention you have information about Rose, you may already have this.

Rose died at North Adelaide with residence Renmark.

John died at Adelaide in a hospital or place of care [may have been the Royal Adelaide Hospital] with residence Renmark.

I am finding this most interesting as you are mentioning places where I have relations.
Although Glynde is not very close to Brighton their 1961 address from their trip to England is only 2 kilometres away.

Cando where are your photos from.  My father left Mildura in 1940 to join up.  He joined 2/2 Pioneers in May 1940 at Caulfield.
