Sydney Ellis, marriage & death
« on: Saturday 22 August 15 22:31 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking for the marriage and death of my gt uncle Sydney Ellis.

He left the UK for Adelaide in 1932, he enlisted in the Australian army in 1940 at Caulfield, Victoria.
The back of his wedding photo gives his wife's name as Lil and the date 1949, no idea of Lil's maiden name or where the marriage took place.
Their deaths would be after c1961 as that is when they visited the UK, though I haven't found them on any passenger lists, yet.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Bee

Not much help with his marriage Bee but the nominal roll says he served with the 2/2 Pioneers.

http://www.ww2roll.gov.au

They are still a very strong unit and have a presence online.

He was living in Wentworth when he joined up.  If he went back there then marriage and death would be registered in NSW.  There is no guarantee though as my father didn't return.
There is a lot of information on the site which could give you an insight into his service.  He was a POW of the Japanese.

Hi Nanna

I only knew about it because it is my fathers unit.  You could try putting a question on there about him or look at the photos.

Hi

On the Australia Archives site, shipping records show that Lilian and Sydney returned to Australia on the Himalaya in Oct 1961

If you look at the digital copies of the passenger lists, on Page 21 Lilian and Sydney are recorded as living in South Australia.

If you have probs finding the list send me a PM and I will send you a copy that I have saved

This could be Sydney and Lilian

Name: Sydney  Ellis
Date of Death: 12/04/1990 (Aged 87 Years)
Location: East Area, Rose Bed N1, Position 037

Name: Lillian May Ellis
Date of Death: 21/02/1993 (Aged 88 Years)
Location: East Area, Rose Bed N1, Position 036

Centennial Park Cemetery SA

Seems that there were Death/ Funeral notices in the Adelaide Advertiser
