Monks family

Hello,
Im trying to trace the Parents of John Monks b 1808 in Spitalfields,  he married Elizabeth Larcher, I am able to find Elizabeths parents , but cannot find anything for John.

I did find their marriage but how do you know he was born 1808 Spitalfields?

John   Monks
Marriage 25 May 1828   Saint Matthew, Bethnal Green, London
Spouse   Elizabeth Larcher

Hi, Thanks for that, the reason I asked was I found a death in 1841, clearly not him.
I have now found them in 1841 & 1851 but not later yet. I will have a closer look tomorrow.

Two John Monk baptisms on family search Chelsea & St Marylebone but none Spitalfields.

1841 Crown Court in Quaker Street, Christchurch, Whitechapel, Middlesex

1851 Pools Place, Quaker Street, Christchurch, Whitechapel, Middlesex

All born Spitalfields, except Elizabeth Shoreditch
John   Monks   Head   43   1808   Silk Weaver
Elizabeth   Monks   Wife   42   1809   Silk Weaveress
Ann   Monks   Daughter   13   1838   Servant
Sarah   Monks   Daughter   12   1839   -
John   Monks   Son   10   1841   -
William   Monks   Son   9   1842   -
Thomas   Monks   Son   6   1845   -
Mary   Monks   Daughter   4   1847   -
Henry   Monks   Son   0   1851   -

I cannot find any of them after 1851?

Many thanks for your help.

I too have that info, and it ties in with what i have elsewhere, just a pity I cannot go further back than John........things become even more sketchy when the Monks become Monk.......

Hi Gary,
Just one small point have you googled the silk weavers of Spitalfields, many of them descend from French Huguenots. There is quite a lot of info. on line, you might get lucky.

Hi,

Just a thought ... have you tried going laterally through the family and researched brothers and sisters of John?  There are numerous baptism and marriage records for "MONKS" in the vicinity of Spitalfields, from the early 1800s and many of these register parents names.  Some of these refernce "trader", "weaver" as professions.  There are also London rent and tax records for a couple of  John Monks that may be applicable.

Places: Dörrmenz, Bächlingen, Lensiedel, Gerabronn, Kirchberg an der Jagst
