The Cottage,High Street,Lamport
« on: Thursday 20 August 15 11:46 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the history of the above property, especially details of the occupants by the name of Daniels in around 1950 to 1980.  Any info would be much appreciated.  With thanks

Do you know whether it has always been called 'The Cottage', where have you looked so far for information, and which property is it on this map?

Thank-you

Looking through the censuses there appear to be railway cottages, cottages, Lodge Farm Cottage, Lamport Grange Cottage, Oak Cottage, Dukes' Farm Cottage, so which one was on the High Street?

People living in it from 1950's to 1980's could still be alive - do you know anything else about them?

Hi Chempat,

I'm afraid I don't know how long the name has applied but I think it possible that it is a 4-bed place which is currently sold STC on Rightmove. It was originally part of the old Post Office.  The original building was 18C.  I believe it has changed hands at least twice since 1980.

I don't know the village myself so I couldn't pinpoint the cottage on a map.  It is unlikely that the lady who lived there in 1980 would still be alive, given her age.

Thank you for your help

I think that could be the one.  Unfortunately, I'm trying to trace the antecedents of the lady who lived there in 1982 so the current occupiers are unlikely to be able to help.  It may have to be a trip to the Northampton archives!  Thank you again.

Looking at the 1881 census, there does not appear to be a 'High Street' (there is a Lamport Street)  but there are 3 Cottages - 1,2 and 3 New Cottages.
1 New Cottages is John Chater age 34 from Welton, Northants.

2 is Sarah Wilson age 36 from Maidwell, Northants

and 3 is Ellinor Lyford age 49 from Sittingbourne.

Have a look at the schedule on the first page of the census, and look at all the dwellings in the hamlet.
