Thank you for all the replies.  At a guess I would say that the photograph was taken about 10 years ago.  I don't know the time of the year this was taken.  I have never been to the Northern Parts of Australia so am totally unfamiliar with any of the places that have been mentioned.  Anything suggested is very much appreciated.

Not sure if the time of year is much of an issue. The lower trees look to be healthy and the surrounds look fairly clean ie no rising or falling mud/water lines. I think there is good flow out of there

Good point. So ... some parts of the Kimberly and Katherine Gorge would be out of contention .. I'll have to look at my photos to check.

Hi Whitejaegar,
   Welcome to rootschat  :)

That does look like a good suggestion - and I didn't even know it was there (as a sydneysider I'm embarrassed)

cheers,
   Ros

Great 1st post WhiteJaegar . I reckon its a close get. The geology structure is similar and the depth of the gorge matches in a close manner.

I would be happy to say this is Glenbrook Gorge

Thanks for welcome all,
The original photo just reminded me of Glenbrook. I spent many years camping and hiking there as a youngster. We abseiled a lot and the rock face just reminds me of that area.

Glenbrook National Park is quite popular. Many parts are now accessible by car, it used to be a great place for walking everywhere.
Cheers
Jim

Jim, Thank you for providing me with this information.  This could very well be the place the photo was taken.  I know that my brother drove a cousin from Adelaide to Sydney around the time this photo would have been taken.  My cousin was from England and spent several weeks in South Australia.  She was flying out of Sydney and my brother drove her from Renmark to Sydney.   They would have stopped at several scenic spots on their way to Sydney so possibly this is where the photo was taken.  If it was taken there my cousin would have taken the photo.  I will send a copy to her (by post) and see if she took the photograph.

Regards Kaybron
