The Crane by the bows, to the right of the photo  looks like  the type  of  Container  lifting crane   such as at Liverpool, Seaforth  container terminal.

I found this Photo whilst searching and although its not exactly the same its damn near pretty close as far as the Number of Cranes there! So you could well be correct in suggesting Liverpool! Had many a good Scouse friend in my days at Sea!
They were always so friendly ,but beware those who took a disliking to you! LOL :)

It appears to Be Russian but more likely Republic of China. It's a red star and appears to have the image of Stalin or Mao under the star. Any way I sent the picture to my unce a retired Naval Officer (hopefully he can get you an answer), the second after his brother who is deceased and would be able to get the answer.

Any idea how old the photo is?   Or any idea which port it is?

Or even  what sort of cargo it would be carrying, such as Grain or Timber?    Or scrap metal?

It doesn't look very "majestic"   though does it?

I think the White Star line had a ship called Majestic  way back in the 1910s, but that would have been  a passenger  liner.

To recap:   The crane near the bows of the ship, on the right of the photo  looks to me  very similar to the type of gantry crane  which lifts containers (  If you know the Channel 4  video of a container port, think of those cranes)      So The photo was taken in a dock with modern facilities.

The funnel  should be a big help in identifying the line that owns the ship.
