FindMyPast and MAC computer
« on: Friday 14 August 15 17:38 BST (UK) »
Is anyone else having trouble searching FindMyPast records on a MAC?

Well not exactly searching but viewing and downloading pages. Every time I try to view something I'm taken to the "Thanks for registering" page. All FindMyPast can suggest is that I try a different browser.

I'm running the latest version of Safari on an iMac less that six months old with OS X Yosemite 10.10.4

Thanks for that. I think I've found a work-around which only makes me more puzzled - I decided to re-start and, at the moment its working OK. In the last 15 years or so I've never really found it necessary to turn a MAC off - simply put it to sleep - unless it wasn't needed for a couple of days or more.

Still, the problem only developed in the last week or so and only with FindMyPast - t'other lot works fine!

maybe FindMyPast has updated their cookies which required a reboot to clear the cache???

Do you access FindMyPast from a Bookmark?  Sometimes deleting and renewing the bookmark resolves some issues.

Thanks but I doubt its the bookmark. Fortunately everything seems OK at the moment.

I was having no problem getting onto the site but, whilst viewing a document, clicking on "Download" took me to the "Thank you for subscribing/sign on page". Things then got worse; I could search but right clicking one of the search results to open the document in a new window/tab produced the same result. Even worse, later, simply clicking on a search result to view it in the same window did exactly the same.

This is my fifth MAC and the FindMyPast website is the only one I've ever had trouble with.   ... OK that and the first on-line version of the Cheshire Tythe maps! (which they've since sorted)

Re: FindMyPast and MAC computer - COMPLETED Thanks

After a week or so of struggling, I am totally convinced that the problems are down to the FindMyPast website. The boffins at FindMyPast have admitted this and the only advice they can offer is that they are working on the problem and I might like to try an alternative browser.

Its unfortunate that they don't tell you this before you pay for a subscription. Its clearly something they've done as the site used to work OK

I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10.4.   I am able to access and use FindMyPast.  I have however had issues with other sites.  The alternative browser i have used in these circumstances is FirFox 34.05.  I much prefer Safari but FireFox is a close second for me.

Was having the same problem using my iMac and got this back from FindMyPast.  Because unsure what changing browser to Google Chrome from Safari would do to my other programs, decided to just use my Acer laptop  with Google Chrome, and can access the records now.

Dear Frank

Thank you for your email.

I am  sorry to hear that you have been experiencing an issue with the website.

We are currently aware of a potential issue which is associated with a particular browser and our engineers and developers are currently investigating the reports we have received to try and find the cause of the problem.

As the investigation is currently ongoing however, to allow you access in the meantime, we would suggest changing the browser you are using ( even just temporarily) which will prevent this error message occurring.

We do suggest that, where possible, members should download the latest versions of any  browser  - it's free to do this and takes just a few minutes.

Below is a list of links to various browser update sites.

Mozilla Firefox

Google Chrome

Internet Explorer

I hope this will help but do please contact us again should the problem persist even after changing from the original browser.
