Death and burial records Northamptonshire

Afternoon all
I have an ancestor George Henry GURNEY who died Mar qtr 1980 registered Northampton and I would like to find an obit or burial notice but haven't been able to access or find anything at the moment.  I have written to the Northampton council but they have no GURNEY's on their burial registers. Have also tried the county crematorium but no luck.
Is there any way I can access 1980 notices please?  I have also tried British Newspapers but they don't seem to go much beyond 1954.   Be grateful for any advice.

Hi

It might pay to get his death certificate as that should have his usual residence on it. This may help narrow down where to look. Northampton Reg District may be where he died but it doesn't necessarily mean he lived there.
