Help determine if this is the same person
« on: Monday 03 August 15 06:30 BST (UK) »
Hello! I need help determining if these photos are that of the same person. The photo of the older man is 'old man Clanton' (found online) and he is my ancestor, but I do not have any photos that are confirmed to be him. My photo is possibly him at an earlier time. The mouth and eyes are similar. Beyond that it is hard to say (for me anyway). Thanks!

I am basing my comments on the shape of the head

1st pic looks to end in a chin point , whereas the 2nd photo looks more squarer. Can the growth of a beard hide a point? I would have thought the beard would have followed the angle of the face

But gee there is a similarity otherwise

It will follow the shape of the face to some extent, but when the beard is as long as the one in the smaller picture you really can't tell what's going on underneath. I've had a beard for many many years, and however neat it is when freshly trimmed, as it grows it tends to get a bit wild and straggly, and yes, squarer.

What you might deduce from the photos is that both guys could grow a decent set of whiskers - and I agree, they're pretty similar.

Gosh, there are strong similarities there!  I can't do it, but perhaps some clever soul could overlay one on t'other?

The eyes of the man in the larger photo are hooded whereas the ones of the chap in the smaller photo are much more open and you can see most of his upper eyelid towards the eye socket.

Thanks everyone! I thought the lazy eye ( at least what it appears to be ) was what got me thinking this was the same guy..  But there are differences too. I will dig around my boxes of photos and see if I can find a photo of this person at an older age for better comparison. Thanks again!
