Thanks Shuan,  nice to know it can be done if extra ram is added.

As our netbooks get little workout these days, I think they will stay in retirement.

I got the Win10 invite on my notebook PC but I'm in no hurry.

I'm still thinking wistfully of Win XP after running Win 8.1 for a year, still hate Win 8.1

Anyone know the cut-off date for installing the free Win10?

Another new one. I set the PC to "Sleep" mode last night. This morning, it had came out of sleep mode itself. I tried to connect to the internet, (Firefox) and the only web page I can get is RootsChat. The fonts are larger, but I can access the pages. I can get nothing else, even trying Chrome. Internet Explorer is stating, "DNS service isn't responding".
I really am loving Windows 10, NOT!!!!!!

Regards

Malky

Update, Microsoft download update, internet started working again, then automatic protection shutdown. It started up again and seemed to be running something continusously for about 30 minutes, stuf still running in the background, but am able to access the net.

I upgraded the netbook RAM just after I bought it so that should be Ok

My OH has a netbook running XP, can he upgrade it to a newer version of Windows by adding extra RAM?

LizzieL:
To upgrade to Windows 10 from anything prior to Windows 7 will cost too much.

[Most old systems didn't have the ability to use more resources]
My old XP machine had graphics card/motherboard and soundcard not compatible.
Need a machine that runs Windows 7 at least for it to be a free upgrade.

WIN 10 'File History' feature.

Wont enable on my PC  ... its selected a Drive, but on clicking enable nothing happens !

Anyone got it running ?

I saw it running when I 1st upgraded, but since doing a 'clean install' of WINX, it steadfasly refuses ....

Unless anything has changed recently, I think you have 12 months from launch date :)

Malky,

I'm sure you'll have tried it, but for anyone else having odd problems, don't forget the old "turn it off and on again" advice. It has rectified several apparent problems on my system.

My wife has a HP Photosmart 6520 printer which wouldn't scan documents after installing Win10.
We were able to get it scanning again after installing a update from HP, which involved also installing and using a diagnostic program.

For me Win10 has fixed a graphic problem I had with a game made to work with XP, Vista and Win 7 which I was playing on Win8. Kings Bounty
No major problems so far on my computer.
