Its less likely to be down to makes of PC and more likely connected to the types of hardware used by the individual PC manufactuers, may of which are likely to have been used across more than one model and make, and to the software installed. This will have been one of the reasons that Microsoft setup the facility to have your PC checked via the reservation feature as it would then check for any issues and advise in advance of any potential problems that may mean you needed to delay the upgrade. In spite of Microsoft having been using the Insider Program for some months to test the product, there are still a number of software manufactuers who haven't upgraded their programs yet and obviously the older the version of the software and/or hardware driver, the more chance there could be an issue. Doesn't mean all older software could potentially be a problem, just that its more of a possibility. This has, of course, happened in the past but then there wasn't a free update available to so many people.

I know from reading this thread that a number of RCers have upgraded via the download and not the reservation facility without any issues, but with such a variety of software and hardware available across all the PCs illegible for the upgrade, it's not really surprising there have been issues.
