just type 'Control Panel' into the search box, you can then select your familiar Control Panel then select Sytem Configuration from there if that's the way you like to access it.

Not so!

The whole point of my original posting was to say that Sys Config was no longer accessible on WIN10 via Control Panel !

As to "typing msconfig.exe into the search box was the most familiar way of bringing this up in Win7" - each to their own I guess ...

Help please.   If I reserve the Free edition of W10, will it download automatically.
Can I choose when to install it myself.

I had Windows Update set to update automatically. The download happened before I could stop it but it failed. It then got stuck in a loop trying to download and preventing other updates from installing. I followed some suggestions on the Microsoft website which eventually resulted in my having to use System Restore in safe mode. I've now cancelled my reservation and won't be getting Windows 10 unless it's preloaded on a new machine !

Thanks.
I have 3 options for updates. I used to use 3 but changed to 1.  Which option is best
regarding W10. Should I stick with 8.1 which   I unwittingly ended up with  without knowing it .

1 Download updates but let me choose whether to install
  2 Install updates automatically (recommended)
3 Check for updates and let me choose whether to download.

I thought I'd posted a message this morning but I can't see it.  Oh well gremlins in the works I supposed.

The question is has anyone with Windows 10 noticed the name of an American poet/author in the top LH corner of the screen when first turning on PC.  It is before the log on page appears.  Today it was Mark Twain, can't remember yesterday's but it was a more modern poet/author.  Below the name is a quotation, and if you click on it, you get taken immediately to a web page where there are lots of entries about said poet/author - that was weird because I didn't even have to log on.  I usually just ignore it.  Does it appear because I only close the lid on my laptop rather than actually turning it off, or is everyone else seeing this?

Anyone who finds Control Panel a little limited could try Windows "God Mode" ;D

It simply collects together most of the available administrator controls in a single folder. My folder was successfully copied from Windows 7 when I upgraded.

Well, having loaded Windows 10, I first lost the bottom half of my screen, which took over 6 hours to sort out even using the so called help pages and the community. Early this morning I switched off as usual, but when I tried to switch on this morning at 05:30, total crash. Have been trying to repair and self repair, and finally at 15:30 hrs, it's up and working, but for how long, only time will tell. Not that impressed with it so far.

Regards

Something to be wary of if you have already installed Win 10 or are about to install http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/windows-10-how-to-stop-giving-away-personal-information-11363996337982

Sorry Lostris but you're confusing me. From the Control Panel in Windows 10 (which looks the same as Windows 7 Control Panel), accessing System Configuration is EXACTLY the same as from Windows 7 Control Panel. ie Select Administrative Tools then select System Configuration from the list of Tools presented.
As I said, if you put the Control panel as a short cut on your start menu then you have the same as windows 7 Which also has the control panel on it's start menu.

Certainly a good 'heads up' to make all users aware of the information shared with Microsoft!
[Looking down the options listed I just had the 2) option selected as on, 1)/3) and 4) listed as off]
