appleyard and Lincolnshire
« on: Monday 27 July 15 20:14 BST (UK) »
I have the baptism information on the children of William Appleyard and Rebecca for the village of Laceby in Lincolnshire.  The children were Mary, Rebecca, Frances, William, Jane and Thomas and the baptisms were between 1726 and 1738.  I cannot find a marriage for William and Rebecca so I do not know her surname or a baptism for a Rebecca in Laceby.  The only baptism I can find for a William Appleyard is in 1703 in Luddendon Foot which is near Calderdale in Yorkshire.  This seems a long way from Laceby and could anyone suggest a good reason for travelling from one to the other or has anyone found any other William Appleyard married to a Rebecca for the right time?  There are several family trees on ancestory giving Luddendon Foot as the birth place for William Appleyard but I am never clear what evidence people have or if this is just what comes up on the ancestory search engine which is not exactly definitive.
Any help appreciated

Definitely don't trust information from online trees without checking other sources yourself first!  ;D

I can't see any possible marriages for William and Rebecca yet in Laceby - only a William Appleyard and Elizabeth Johnson in 1721 (could be a relative or could be your William)

Only a couple of miles away at Swallow there was a marriage of a WA of Laceby to a Mary PATTINSON

There are two marriages in Laceby which might be for the children.

1761 - 17th May - John Thompson, of Irby, and Frances Appleyard. William Appleyard signed his name as a witness, together with Wm Plompton.

1773 - 23rd Feb - William Appleyard and Faith Barker. Both signed their own names. Witnesses Thos Fulford and Thomas Baynton.

Just to throw into the mix. I found online a post that says WA`s first wife was Elizabeth, she died March 22 1724/25 then WA leaves Laceby ( how do they know ? no source ) and returns with new wife Rebecca about 1726/27. There are no sources for this , but Googling the names may lead you onto some.

Thanks for the information people have posted and I think it is possible that William was married to Elizabeth and then Rebecca so it may be that it was Elizabeth who was from Laceby and that was the reason for settling there. Frances and William are two of William and Rebecca's children and I am reasonably confident about that but I am reassured that it is not just me who doubts some online trees.  I have never tried googling the names so I will try that.  Still unsure why he would have been travelling from Luddendon Foot in first place to meet either Elizabeth or Rebecca.  I will have a look at the Mary Pattinson although I am not sure I want any more complications!

Good luck with it ! I always Google any names that are a problem just in case , but then I do my own checks, as has been suggested already.

Also, Laceby has it`s own website; I don`t know if there will be anything there to help as I haven`t had time to go through it. It might be worth a look.
