George LEDLIE
« on: Tuesday 21 July 15 08:10 BST (UK) »
Hi.

Is there any person who can solve a Great War Mystery.
Commemorated on the headstone in St Andrews graveyard, Ballyesboro, Co Down (The church notice board has Ballyhalbert) is George LEDLIE who was killed in France on the 18th July 1916 aged 25.  Parents were William and Margaret (Maggie)
No record can be found for this soldier under the surname of LEDLIE.  However there is a George LAIDLAW who died on the same day same age and in France and his parents were W.H.Laidlaw of Ballyesboro.  Is this the same family.

many regards
Alf

This is likely the father's death http://www.rootschat.com/links/01fqe/, no H on it though.
Someone good at searching Northern Ireland sites will solve this no problem I'd say, probably doing it as I type.

Not father's death as that William Ledlie (Belfast registration district) was under 1 year old.

This is likely the correct one-
William Ledlie, age 50, died 27 Oct.1905 Newtownards registration district (Greyabbey sub-district)

Hi
A BIG thank's to every on who replied it has been a great help.  It appears that the surnames was either miss spelt or the Commission was given the spelling of the surname, at least we have the correct soldier.

regards
Alf
