Can someone help me please ,while researching my family history I found that a distant relative had been an inmate in the above according to the 1891 Census .I have been trying to find out why with no avail .She eventually married my Greatgrandmothers brother on my mothers side because by the time of the 1911 census they had 2 children and were living in Newcastle upon Tyne I would love to know more of this place .
                                  If anyone can help would appreciate it

Wansbeck Home in Elswick Road, Newcastle, was a female penitentiary founded in 1831, maintained by voluntary contributions and work done by the inmates. In this case a Penitentiary means a refuge for ‘fallen women’, a home for reformed prostitutes, unmarried mothers, etc.
