Hi Tara, I can't have explained myself properly.

Catherine was (according to family legend) brought from Ireland to England aged six weeks.

I haven't been able to find a single baptism.

Bye

Hi There

That's my point though is that it's legend, not fact.

IF she was brought to England ages 6 weeks old, then that's 1841, 1851 & 1861 census that she's missing from.

Just say the 'legend' is true ~ who brought her ?

Is / Was there an implication that she could have been orphaned / adopted, that leads to a whole avenue of other possible names that she could have gone by.

Could she have been married and widowed before her 1861 marriage, some didn't note it on a subsequent marriage cert ?!

I'm just trying to come up with ideas as to why, if the family story is to have merit, how is she missing from so many census'.

Hey, there could be a very simple explanation  ;D

Tara

Hi Tara.

Age at death tallies with a birth year of 1841 so she was 20 when she married, plus her father's surname is the same as hers on the marriage certificate.

I have never heard any mention of adoption within the family.

I assume there is nothing on the 1841 census because the family arrived after census night.

There is a possible sighting on the 1851 but I cannot prove it as no father present.

On the other missing census she could have been mistranscribed or added with a ditto to previous names if she was renting a room.

All I can hope for is that something turns up out of the blue, but I think it is a certainty that I am not going to get anywhere with her Irish roots.
