Rev. Richard Waddy, Holy Trinity Church Killaloo

Does anyone know when Richard Waddy was installed as rector of the Lower Cumber Parish Church (Holy Trinity) in Killaloo (Glenshane Road).  I see he was collated prebend in 1782.  I am trying to determine when he was first associated with the church there.

Actually I am now a bit puzzled.  In 1762, Rev. Richard Waddy was marrying people at St. Columb's Church of Ireland.  I assumed that he was the Richard Waddy last at Cumber.  Is he a different minister?

There were at least 2 Richard Waddys- google 'lower cumber parish church & richard waddy.'

I do know that Cumber Parish was split in 1789 and Richard Waddy's son Richard Waddy, jun., became Curate of Cumber Upper in 1797 while his son John Waddy became Rector of the Cumber Lower in 1789.  So I assume the two Richard's you refer to are the father in son.  I wonder if the Richard Waddy of St. Columb's was the grandfather.

Okay, with aghadowey's info and following every tidbit I could find using search engines I think I have him figured out.

1758-1769 Curate of Templemore parish, Londonderry [Derry Clergy & Parishes]
1769-1771 Rector of Termonamongan parish, Tyrone [Ibid]
25 Oct 1771-1776 Rector of Kilrea [Ulster Journal of Archaeology, vol. 2. p. 260].
20 Mar 1776-1782 Rector of Desertmartin [Ibid]
1782-1789 Prebend of Cumber Parish
1789-30 Jan 1806 (his death) Prebend of Cumber Upper Parish

At the split of Cumber parish in 1789, his son Richard became his curate in Cumber Upper parish, and his son John became rector of Cumber Lower parish.  So one Richard Sr., one Richard Jr., and one John.

You seem to have done fairly well on Richard Waddy (1722-1806). You might like also to consult Derry Clergy & Parishes (James B Leslie, 1937), facsimile in Clergy of Derry & Raphoe (Fawcett & Crooks, Ulster Historical Foundation, 1999).

This authoritative source states that Cumber was split in 1798 (not 1789), and gives a clear picture of the careers of the three Waddys. As to Prebends: the office-holder is a Prebendary, the benefice is a Prebend; to call a person a Prebend is like calling him a Vicarage.

Thank you for noting the correct usage of prebend and prebendary.

However, I still stand with the split being in 1789.  I refer to page 104 of Rev. John Rutherford's "Cumber Presbyterian Church and Parish" where he states "The parish was divided into the parishes of Upper and Lower Cumber by Act of Council in 1789, Upper Cumber retaining the Prebend.  The following is the Privy Council order dated 18th November, 1789:--'That portion of Cumber Parish be cut off (now called Lower Cumber) and be a new rectory; and that 261a. 0r. 19p. of Tenagh Glebe be cut off Cumber Glebe as a glebe for it."
