Request for Help Deciphering Military Service Record
« on: Tuesday 14 July 15 13:43 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I'm trying at assist a friend of mine who has found some Military Records for his family.  We have both looked at them but don't really understand that terms used in the document.

Any assistance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thee Soldiers name is: Joseph Stanley Ferris

We think he was a Medic (or atleast in a Medical unit) in the AIF, who shipped out to France on a Ship called the Medic after that we kind of got lost.

Copies of the Documents are attached.  Once again any assistance would be gratefully received.

Regards,

Ivan

From what I can glean from it.
He was in 8th. Coy 60th. Battalion which was in reserve.
He sailed from Melbourne 16/12/16 on the "Medic" arriving UK 18/2/17 where he was admitted to the Military hospital in Devonport. He was transferred between Australian Army Camps at Codford & Perham until 31/3/17 when he rejoined his unit in France possibly Rouelles.
10/11/17 he was back in Codford in 14th. Training Batt.
Next day he was training as a signaller same place.
17/12/17 he's transferred to the Aust. Army Military Command. Originally from the 60th. Batt. then 13th. Training Batt. ( this is at odds with above but that's not unusual).
27/12/17 he's mobilised from No.2 camp Parkhouse to France via Southampton as a reinforcement.
29/1/17 in Rouelles France.
16/1/18 back in Parkhouse camp.
16/6/18 posted to Staff HQ Rouelles.
18/1/19 disembarks at Southampton & posted to no.2 camp (probably Parkhouse)
10/4/19 posted back to Australia on the "Medic".
He was medically discharged being graded as B2.

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for your reply.  It has certainly made many things clearer and helped to explain a few 'family stories'.

I have passed your reply along to my mate and has has also asked me to pass along his thanks to you also.
