Miles HARVEY married Dinah LEE - 17 November 1806 Cromhall, Gloucestershire

Looking at CLDS - two children were christened at Somerford Keynes - which was in Wiltshire - now in Gloucestershire

Hence Somerford Keynes not transcribed on Gloucestershire Family History CD's

Hi,

I think we are both searching for the same Miles Harvey,  father of Henry Harvey. I am just waiting for a birth certificate which may help find the right Gloucestershire Harvey's. Miles is my 4 X great grandfather. A family member told me a few years ago that there was a link with a Haviland family via the Harvey's. Someone else on Ancestry has Henry's son John H Harvey as John Haviland Harvey. If the certificate confirms this middle name I think that will help as I have found an earlier Harvey/Haviland marriage in Gloucestershire. If not, back to the drawing board! Best Catherine

Hi Paul,

Not the instant answer I was hoping for.  The certificate has been accurately transcribed.  I think that as well as being illiterate, Henry Harvey may have had a speech impediment!  The Certificate is definitely the correct child and the correct family, but he is registered as John Avlung Harvey.  Given the issue over Axbridge/possibly Hawksbury and John being registered everywhere else as John H, I don't think that it is impossible that he was in fact named John Haviland.  A collegue from Gloucester agreed that Haviland could indeed sound like Avlung when said to a Welshman by someone with a thick Gloucestershire accent.  She even did a pretty mean impression!

So, I think the only way of confirming that H stands for Haviland now is by seeing if there is a record of his baptism, if he was baptised.  I'm guessing that most children were baptised at this time?  To date I haven't found any baptism records for any of the Harvey children although I do have Henry and Mary's wedding certificate which shows them having married at the Chapel of Abersychan.  I think that this is in the parish of St Thomas's Talywain.  I feel sure that the Haviland name will unlock this puzzle, it must be linked to a parent or grandparent.

I've attached a copy of John's birth certificate for info.  Can I ask where you fit in with the Harvey's?  Best Catherine (Biggsie!)

Hi Catherine

It’s actually my wife’s family I’m tracing – having hit a few brickwalls in my own family.

My wife’s Great grandmother was Anne Cordelia HARVEY, born 1861, one of the daughters of Henry HARVEY and Mary STEWARD. From census material I believe that Henry and Mary had at least 9 children, I guess you have the same info:

1.   Henry
2.   Elizabeth
3.   Mary
4.   Thomas Joseph
5.   William Isaac
6.   Anne Cordelia
7.   John H.
8.   Sophia E.
9.   Susannah

I started this post to try to locate the birth place of Henry HARVEY since I was ‘stuck’ on him.

I also have very little information about Mary STEWARD either, other than that she was born in Llewysham, MON circa 1827, dau of Henry STEWARD and Mary ????, and that she had an older brother Thomas born c. 1826.

I hope this is of interest.

Kind regards
Paul

That is really helpful, thanks Paul.

I am also linked via Anne Cordelia, she is my GG Grandmother.  I have some interesting info on her and her children, the Edwards family, in Canada.  You may already have this?  My G Grandmother was Emily Edwards.  Is there a way that we can continue this conversation away from this site?  Do you have an Ancestry Account?

Best,

Catherine
