Can anyone please tell me if there was an army base at Strathaven during WW2? I have a picture of an uncle with his battalion and on the back it is stamped "Blake, The Studio, Strathaven". Handwritten is the date 1940. I am trying to find out where my uncle served and who with.
Here is the picture:
Thanks for reading,
Nina

Ninatoo,
A google for Strathaven might give you some info, also, you might have some luck posting this request in the Armed Forces section on this site.
Good Luck

Thanks Cammy,
I googled extensively before posting here, and found nothing. I posted this request at the armed forces though, so thanks for that advice.

I have never heard of an actual army base in Strathaven but I know that german POWs were billetted in the area and worked on local farms. Suppose there must have been some British soldiers keeping an eye on them. Suggest you might contact Strathaven Echoes. Chapel Road Strathaven (don't know web address), local newspaper.
