Thomas Lovell and Union Bosworth
« on: Wednesday 08 July 15 15:46 BST (UK) »
Hello
Can anyone help to identify Thomas Lovell bc1780 and Union Bosworth bc1780? They married in 1803 in St Leonard's Shoreditch. Their children were Louisa Lovell b1813-1875, Joseph Lovell, Thomas Lovell, Lewis Lovell b1809 Essex and James Lovell. They were both from Romany families.
Louisa married Daniel Giles b1806 and had 12 children including Laney, Caroline Union, Angelina, Brittania and Henrietta who married Thomas Taylor, grandson of Jeremiah and Sarah Taylor.

There was another Lovell and "Union" marriage, connected to the family (Lee and Lovell?)in Barnes. They also used similar names. I can only find a marriage listing for Thomas and Union. I'm wondering if Union BOSWORTH is a corruption or misspelling of BOSWELL, although I have tried lots of variations. Is there anyone who has access to details from the Gypsy Law Society who might have seen them mentioned? I've hit this wall so many times with this couple. >:(

Thomas Lovell and Union Bosworth, both of the parish, married 7th March 1803 at St. Leonard, Shoreditch.  Both made their mark; witnesses were John Smith and Joseph Lovell, who also made their mark.

Thank you Jan,
I actually have the cert, it wouldn't let me upload it though. I'm wondering if anyone knows to what family they belong? There is another in Barnes with a Union and Joseph Lovell about this time but they are not them. Thomas is a very common name and there are quite a few of them. I cant find any trace of her before their marriage -Union Bosworth/Boswell/Boss I've tried them all!

Doesn't help narrow them down but "The Family Tree of Daniel and Violetta LOVELL" and "The Family Tree of Major and Susanna LOVELL" both have lots of entries relating to BOSWELL, but not BOSWORTH.

The data in "Daniel" covers "From about 1750 to about 1910, in most parts of Enhland and several parts of Wales" whilst "Major" covers "From about 1750 to about 1910, from most parts of England and some parts of Wales and Scotland".

See www.rtfhs.org.uk for more information about these two books including a list of more surnames mentioned in the trees.

Hello Darnity,
Thank you for that. I've actually got those books on Boswell and I can find no mention of them. She could have been a Bosworth, Boss, Boswell...any number of names. I've searched under Union but I keep coming back to Union Lee and Joseph Boswell, from Barnes. They both name children in similar names. Union may even use another Christian and surname? She uses Union when baptising her children.
I've searched GLS records too, with no luck. The brick wall has been hit I think?

Hello cousin. What line do you come from? I'm wondering if she was a Boswell but I can't find anything on either name. So frustrating, I've come to a grinding halt on them!
