Ewing (s) Family Search
« on: Thursday 02 July 15 13:37 BST (UK) »
im doing my Ewing(s) family tree, in Omagh Co Tyrone, not far away from ballygawley, but im wondering if my ancestors were connected to yours in ballygawley.

My grandfather was Joseph Ewing married to Rebecca Maud Mitchell.  He was one of 13. I have there baptism from Edenderry C of I
His Father was John James Ewings married to Mary Jane McCausland.  Her father John McCausland from Deverney, Tyrone where im currently living now.  But there was so many McCauslands back then i cannot connect them up.
John James father either John or Samuel the marriage certificate is unclear, but they got marriedin Edenderry Presbyterian in 25th Jan 1877
John James Ewing 20  Benchran of Termonaguirk      Samuel Ewing, Labourer
Mary Jane McCausland, 18   Deverney of Cappagh      John Ewing

I cannot get any further back.  only to know that John James has a brother Samuel married to Pauley and that family tree is being done by Harriette in Canada.  But were both stuck at the same point.
In Edenderry C of I death records i do have a samuel ewings and eliza/bridget ewings  so im not sure if they are parents are not?

Any help be grateful.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Follow that great tip, exhaust" hallmark"s focused reply, and your will be exhausted yourself! but every negative search that you keep a record of, diminshes the few records left open to you.  You will then encounter the brickwalls of time that many of us reach. I reached that point on my own family and am quite content that I did my best.
Becasue I am belfast born and bred, unlike the rest of my family, my personal satisfaction was finding out about the good and bad of the surname anywhere  eg owning a slave plantation, but more importantly because I was a townie I got a strange satisfaction with finding an ancestor winning plough matches around comber co down 200 years ago ie somthing connecting me to the soil and then finally finding proof that my family came from near Stranraer Wigtownshire.  That satisfied me and I turned to attempting to answer other folks queries .  Wishing you well BallyaltikilliganG
