Hello

I am trying to trace an Anne Wilson convict who married a William Sands in Oatlands 6 February 1854.
William was a convict and was in Oatlands as a Police Constable.

I am trying to find out what happened to Anne.

What searching have you done so far?

From a trove search on William Sands

SANDS.-On the 30th of April, at Launceston, the beloved wife of William A. Sands, of Beaconsfield, in the 26th year of her age. Her end was peace.
Launceston Examiner (Tas. : 1842 - 1899) Friday 14 May 1880.

That does not match as birth would be ~1854.. the date of their marriage? Umm .. errors?

Search on Anne Sands

"Ann Sanders said that on Thursday evening, the 4th instant, she met deceased in Sing David-lane. Slmcl welL Deceased was alone, with her hair hanging loosely over her neck, and much excited. She had )ģeen drinking, and iu reply to witness said, ' My husband is going to beat me.' Witness advised her to keep out of his way, and she promised to do so until his temper was over. The deceased was not a female given to drink, and "
The Cornwall Chronicle (Launceston, Tas. : 1835 - 1880) Saturday 29 August 1863

? What do you have for her ? birth, death date & place would help?
Will of her husband give any clues?

There are a few results for Mary Ann Sands ...

Please cite or link the news items found on TROVE...only takes a moment.

Lots of links on the Australian Resources and Offers board for Tasmania ;).

SANDS William 30 years
WILSON Anne  22 years
6 Feb 1854
At Oatlands  Reg#1246/1854

There were no births registered to this couple in Tasmania.

The 1880 death is for Emma JANE COOK wife of William Arthur SANDS.  They married in 1877 when they were both 21 years old.

Thank you Merlin  :)

Condo I was trying to get more info from the OP, Merlins' link to the earlier posting has somewhat done that.

Kaysands ... Have you searched for Annes' death ? Not found in Tas, Vic, NSW etc? Trove?
It would be nice if you want to ask again to format the information you have so we don't redo it...

Ann WILSON
birth ~ 1832 ?England
transported ex Sir Robert Seppings ~?
marriage 1854 - housemaid spinster to William SANDS 30, Coachman, Widower. Oatlands Tas.

1855 separated? Or died? OR ? William takes up with another woman? And/or did she run off with someone else?

Looks like Ann was illiterate so the spelling may change from time to time. Thus Anne or Ann, Sands or Sanders are all possible.

===================
A search
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q&exactPhrase=Anne+Sanders&anyWords&notWords&requestHandler&dateFrom=1855-01-01&dateTo=1900-12-31&sortby&l-state=Tasmania

gets as one result from a few
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/72197026

Which is the 1863 report above.

------------------
So looking for her 1855 onwards .. death would help ... did she go back to Wilson? The death date would limit the search date for information. It would also give a hint of the places to search. SO I'd think finding her death would be most usefull at this time?

To Warin, Cando & Merlin

Many thanks for your replies, and I have been researching this lot for about 8 years.

We have even been all over Tasmania and to Oatlands, talked to the Historian there, offered no other information, trying to find information, but suffice to say, I do not hold my breath in anticipation.

I just thought that Anne had been neglected and if she did run away, because William was a bad boy, and that is why he never married the woman he ended up with, I wanted to know what happened to her.

There was another gentleman/convict called Joseph Barnes who also asked permission to marry her, but she ended up with William.  Silly woman.

Many thanks for all of your help and every little bit of info can help.

Regards

Kaysands.
