John Minchin Whitaker
« on: Tuesday 23 June 15 08:10 BST (UK) »
John Minchin Whitaker was born abt 1852 in Co Dublin. Becomes a Dr and Dies in June 1935 IN Liverpool. I do not know who his parents are and would like to find out . He marries Twice . Once in Dublin--I assume to Catherine Anne Noad. I say assume because if you Google Devoice of Dr John Minchin Whitaker there is an interesting comment but papers are not searchable as I understand it. He does indeed marry again to Ada Constance Finlay in Sussex in 1894 and I can follow his tree from that point. They return to Dublin and are on the 1901 census with their family and  his sister Sarah age 51.
But who are their parents. Would welcome any help.
many thanks.

Who does he name as his father on the Marriage Certificate?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Both marriage certificate should list father's name and occupation. By 1911 the family is in England and a free census search shows John born Dublin City and son John born Kingston, Co. Dublin which fits with this divorce mention-
Private Act (Not Printed), 57 & 58 Victoria I, c. 1 - ref. HL/PO/PB/1/1894/57&58V1n95 - date: 1894
> [from Scope and Content] An Act to dissolve the Marriage of John Minchin Whitaker of Cove HouseSandycove Kingstown in the County of Dublin Surgeon with Catherine Anne Whitaker his now Wife and to enable him to Marry again and for other purposes. (Whitaker's Divorce.)

Added- this is perhaps what you meant by "if you Google Devoice of Dr John Minchin Whitaker"

Mother Amelia, a widow, died 21 Mar.1898 age 80-

The 1901 census shows a daughter Eileen Amelia who was likely named after John's mother- she was born not long after grandmother's death-

The records of the Private Act of Parliament will be held by Parliament Archives.

They can probably copy them for you?
see: http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/parliamentary-archives/archives-practical/enquiry-services/

There is some advice:
If you are looking for a Private Act, for instance an Act that concerned a divorce, naturalisation or an estate, then it is unlikely to have been printed and you may need to consult the Original Act in the form of a parchment roll here at Westminster or order a copy from us - we will be the only place you can find it. Please note that copying of original act vellums is restricted as per our reprographic guidance.

Thanks  everyone but I have to admit I am confused as to how many marriages we have .   The will of his mother  is useful and we know he is back in Ireland after marrying Ada Finlay so that fits.
