Tredegar workhouse
« on: Saturday 09 July 05 11:56 BST (UK) »
I suspect that this one will be too tough even for the intrepid people of Rootschat world, but here goes.

My husband's grandmother (Beatrice) was born in the Tredegar workhouse in October 1881.  Her mother was Emily Walker and no father is shown.  (Confirming the family story that she was illegitimate).

Emily was living with her family in Cwmtillery in the 1881 census, but obviously her parents couldn't stand the disgrace and put her out. :'(

I suppose that is the end of the road re the father - one vague hope, would there be any point in my trying to track down the workhouse records....and does anyone know where the workhouse was?

Thanks

Stiff - Monmouthshire & Glos, Parry - Monmouthshire
Stafford - Glos, Liles - Glos, Bright- Glos, Webb - Monmouthshire & Glos, Smart - Glos, Smith - Glos
Sullivan - Ireland, Jones (oh dear! Almost as bad as Smith), Walker - Somerset, Llewellyn
And, no don't laugh...Crump...I think it's great!

And of course, if I ever do manage to do a successful look up it is crown copyright and all that legal stuff!

hello

Do you have her marriage certificate.
May give an indication of her father.
