Hampshire Court Flats - Bournemouth
« on: Wednesday 10 June 15 07:27 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have the wherewithall to check a 1938 electoral roll or telephone directory for Hampshire Court Flats in Bournemouth?  To cut a long story short I am a volunteer at the Phyllis Tuckwell Charity Shop in Godalming and we have been donated an album full of 200 odd photos  but NO surnames!!  I'm hell bent on finding family and trying to pick up any clue I can.  The lady album owner moved to Bournemouth to a flat in Hampshire Gardens somewhere between 1936 and 1937 with one son, John.  The chap she is married to is Dick (Richard presumably), a Merchant Seaman Chief Officer (possibly crewing on the Queen Mary).  I know... very little to go on but if I can at least pick up some surnames I can try tracking back with other clues.

Thank you
Sue

In 1936 Bournemouth was in Hampshire not Dorset. You could try Hampshire County Council Archivists who are very helpful, and might be able to point you in the right direction.

The best thing would be to contact the Heritage Zone at Bournemouth Library, they hold all the Electoral Rlls for the area, they are indexed by road rather than name, so it should be simple for them to supply a list of who was living in Hampshire Gardens at that time.
