who do I think I am :)
« on: Tuesday 09 June 15 18:13 BST (UK) »
Well -- I dont think I am any closer to finding out who I am after 15 years of searching my rellies...

I want the 'magic Genie' they seem to have on 'who do you think you are' ... cos they sure get a long way in a short time...

HOWEVER spookily, never being told much about my Paternal Grandmother she died before I was born, and was not mentioned by my Mum, cos ...well Mum didnt like the fact that my Paternal grandparents were not (sssshhhh) actually married... oh dear me...
Anyhow...... Until  maybe 6/7 years ago I hadnt a clue what she looked like...
But since then I have found odd pics of her and more about her .. had some wonderful restores done on here. So happy to at last get a glimpse of her..

I neglected my hair for over one year, after the storm at this place (my mobile lady gave up on us :()
so eventually I went to the local hairdresser in the village, not knowing how I wanted it styling and basically just asked for a dry cut to hide my awful earlobes... :) :)

Came away and though ooo not sure about that....
But it is the VERY best thing I could ever had done...

Because it shows an uncanny likeness between me and My Gran Esther - I cant help but stare at it and wonder how on earth, I managed to have an almost identical style cut to a lady I had only just discovered  ... its a spooky thing this gene thing.

I will see if I can find two pics to compare for you... :)

Can certainly see that you are related. Many years ago I had my hair done just like my mother had hers, about the same age that I was. I had no idea, my hair dresser just decided that was how he was going to do it.. l found a photo of my mother with the same style, plus wearing identical shoes,as to those I had been wearing.

That's remarkable, Xin! How wonderful you can see such a likeness.

Yes there is a striking resemblance there Xinia.

I love looking at old photos. My great gran Kate Coombs nee Roberts born 1863 and her siblings look a lot like their maternal aunt Elizabeth Emily Jacques nee Roberts, children of Thos and Mary Ann Roberts nee Walder. Someone has shared an old photo of Elizabeth with me. I want to find a photo of Kate.

It is nice to see photos of family and how similar they all look alike.

Well done Xin.

Photos are an amazing resource. Whilst I have had very few at hand, a couple of surprises have
occurred.

My one son's facial features are a combination of my Mother and my Fathers, Father. My other son is very much like my Husbands paternal Grandmother.

This would make really good viewing on that well know TV programme in the morning on ITV.

And, also my Brother is the spitting image of his great Uncle, evens stands like him with his hands in his pockets.

 ;D

Large teams with budget to order as many certs as they like, visit as many archives as they like, working full time.

That speeds things up.

A part timer with a finite budget (i.e. most of us) cannot go nearly as fast or well.
