Margaret Tattersall (aldersley) born abt 1792 carlton-In-Craven, died 23 Feb 1856 Elslack, aged 63, married to Thomas Tattersall. I believe Margaret was the daughter of Jeremiah Aldersley and Ann Stott and nor the daughter of Antony. Reasons, Jeremiah and Ann also moved to Elslack, Margaret had children named Jerimiah and Ann, but no Antony. I am descended from Ann Tattersall who married Francis Smith in Elslack.
Margaret's birth is not showing in any records, (Margaret dau of Anthony died inf), or it appears as Mary instead of Margt. (Jeremiah & Ann had two Mary's, 1793, 1795.
Can any one clarify this issue?
Margaret & Thomas had the following children,
Susannah, Ann, Jane, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Christopher, Mary, Patience, James, Jane, Margaret.

Francis Smith Married Ann Tattersall Sep 1837

Children I have found are:

Robert 1839 Married dec 1868 Skipton to Nancy Kenyon
David Sep 1840 no further  info may have died young need to verify this.
Elizabeth Smith 1845, Married Dec 1874 Levi Lee
Margaret Patience Smith 1847 Married James Lesiter Savage June 1871
Mary Smith 1849
Thomas Smith 1851 Married Rebbecca Romans June 1872
Jane Smith 1854 Married George S Hollingdrake Sep 1874
Frank Smith 1859

Theses are all the children I have for Francis and Ann. I do have most of the children and ancestors from all these marriages so perhaps you had better drop me another line so I can see who you have found and who you haven't. Or I could be here for decades.

Who are you descended from?

Anthony Aldersley was married to Elizabeth Tomlinson. marriage was 24 Marh 1788 in Kildwick he had two children with Elizabeth.

Sarah Aldersley born 1789 in Carleton Married John Swire 04 Jan 1810 marriage in Broughton
Margaret Aldersley 1790 Carleton. Thomas Tattersall 17 Dec 1812 Carleton Marriage.

Anthony was married before this to Hannah Baxter. 7 Dec 1775 in Carleton

They had the following children.
John Aldersley 1776
Edmund Aldersley 1777
John Aldersley 1779
James Aldersley 1781
Nancy Aldersley 1783

I have found nothing to suggest that Margaret died young and I dont think she was the child of jeremiah. But as you have gathered they were a very inbred lot and all living and marrying in the same areas so it makes it nearly impossible to tellwho belonged to who.

:o

Here's one for you Jane Smith born 1854 Elslack Married George S Hollingdrake Sep 1874 in Bradford.

George S Hollingdrake is her first cousin! Son of Susannah Tattersall and William Hollingdrake

Susannah being her Mothers Sister.

There's another one as well

Elizabeth Tattersall Married William Aldersley her 2nd Cousin  when you trace back their family line they both go back to John Aldersley who is her 3rd Great Granfather and the 3rd Great grandfather of William!!!!!!

I'm amazed my kids turned out as well as they did with all this inbreeding.

You could be right about the Jeremiah being the father. I will have to go through everything again. sfance a descendant of Anthony thinks that Margaret did died but cannot find any others on IGI so back to square one with this one.

I am a direct descendant of Anthony Aldersley (married to Hannah Baxter).  I  have copies of the Carelton parish registers.  For the christenings beginning March 25th 1790 to March 25th 1791 it says:

"Margaret dau of Anthony & Elizabeth Aldersley of Raygill May 30 1790"

Burials register:

"Margaret dau of Anthony & Elizabeth Aldersley Sept 15th 1791".

I conclude  from this that Margaret Tattersall was not the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth (nee Tomlinson).  Oh and by the way, Anthony and Elizabeth also had another daughter, called Hannah.  She was born 1790 in Carelton and baptised 30/5/1790.  She died 16th Feb 1791 (along with her father, Anthony, who died Sept 29th 1791).

That clears that up then, any Ideas on why Jeremiah has two daughters called Mary and where does Margaret come in to it?

They are all related either way just  a case of finding out Who Margaret Aldersley belonged to.

Been Checking the Census for Elslack 1841 and 1851

Thomas Tattersall is living at Mount Pleasant in 1841 with wife Margaret both aged 50 both born in the county.

In 1851 Thomas is aged 62 and Margaret is 58 living at Moorside House both born Carleton. James their son is with them also born Carleton. Which would make Margaret born 1793 so I guess  she could be the Mary child of Jeremiah, but why the change of name to Margaret?
