Holt Family
« on: Sunday 07 June 15 00:13 BST (UK) »
Need help researching the Holt family, I have hit a brick wall with John Holt who is my 4th great grandfather, born 1787 I think Bury? He married peggy chadwick on the 02/02/1809 at St Mary the Virgin, Bury and went on to have six sons, I have found he's death in 1827 in Bury, It's says he was killed, I don't know how he was killed, so the information I need is hes parents or how he was killed.

I presume that one of these is the baptism of your John Holt - so - do you know the names of the children of John Holt and Peggy Chadwick ??...if so are any named
Alice
Richard
James
hopefully one of the children of John / Peggy will be named after one of these 3 choices
good luck

Presumably this is the death you are referring to from lancashireOPC

17 April 1827 St Mary the Virgin, Bury, Lancashire, England
John Holt - age 40
Abode Pitts o'th Moor
Cause of Death Killed
Buried by Thomas Selkirk Minister of St. John's Bury

I can't see anything in online newspapers about this.  I suppose it could just be something as simple as a fall as opposed to being killed by someone

Hiya Rosie - can you confirm that if he was 40 when he was buried  on 17th April 1827 , the 3 baptisms state the earliest birth was 28th April 1787....does that mean that John Holt was possibly born 1786 in Bury - or - he wasn't born in Bury at all ???
do I have that right ??

Hi,

I think you may have the wrong John Holt death.  There is a John and Jane Holt baptising children at the same time as your John and Peggy.  He was a Miner and their abode was Pitts o'th Moor.

As your Holts seem to always be living around Tottington/Elton, have you considered this death taken from www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

1838 John Holt aged 49 registered in the sub district of Elton.

Edit: I cannot find a burial for him yet .
Buried 2nd January, 1839 Bury Wesleyan Methodist Church, Union Street
John Holt aged 49 of Elton

See the Lancs Quarter Sessions for the entry about the John Holt who was killed. He died while working in a mine.
