St. Kentigerns Cemetery Glasgow
« on: Tuesday 02 June 15 07:30 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am just new to the site so please bear with me.

I am trying to find where my grandparents are buried, I have the Section, Lair No and there was a memorial headstone placed, but no matter how long I look I can't find it. Unfortunately as I work I can only go weekends and there is noone there from the Cemetery staff to help.

I have a copy of the Title Deeds as they are detailed as follows:

Reference No. 14W31476
Cert No. 11149
Lair No. 667
Class B
Section 9

I know that Section 9 is split into two part and it also encroaches slightly into Section 10

The headstone was placed approximately June 1981 and the name would be Fitzpatrick

I also know that the lair held three and buried there are Thomas Fitzpatrick my great grandfather, Thomas Murphy my uncle and Joseph Fitzpatrick my grandfather, my grandmothers ashes were scattered there Catherine Fitzpatrick.

The headstone was erected by A. Jaconelli & Sons and the paperwork I have here is dated 09/06/1981

Unfortunately I have found that Section 9 has many headstones that have been damaged and I can only presume that this has happened to my grandparents.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have posted on a thread already started by others but unfortunately there has been no activity since 2014

Hi Carol

I would contact the cemetery office directly and ask them to confirm that the headstone is still standing or has been removed.

http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/?articleid=5157

Give them the names of the people buried and when they were buried and what you believe to be the correct reference numbers and ask them to check for you and confirm the details and location.

I think it unlikely that a headstone erected as recently as 1981 would have been removed.

On FIND A GRAVE, there is a Pvt Francis Fitzpatrick buried at St Kentigerns:(born 1859, died 10 July 1933).    It says that the grave is unmarked.

Thanks both your your replies will try contacting St. Kentigerns direct, it's difficult trying to get a reply as the office is mostly unmanned. I feel guilty at not visiting the grave more often, mum died Oct 2014 and she is also in St. Kentigerns with dad in Section 22, I go up frequently now and have their grave all tidied up and wanted to do the same for my grandparents.

Well, contacted LES who told me to contact St. Kentigern's direct, have called and left messages but to no avail, yesterday myself and another family member went to the Cemetery, were unable to contact anyone at the office and could find no staff members anywhere. We have managed to pinpoint row we think where my grandparents are buried but so many graves are unmarked. We did find a war grave which we think may be close to where they are buried Private E. Bradbury so will once again try LES and keep on trying to contact the Cemetery. I am presuming the headstone was one that was vandalised in the 80's and we want to put a new one there.

27th Feb 1942 Eliza O'Neill (72yo)
22nd Aug 1979 Joseph Fitzpatrick (80yo)

at which point it was marked as full. There is a note which suggests  a monument with a reference 4305.
no record of a Thomas Fitzpatrick or a Thomas Murphy. if you reply with their dates of death i will see if i can find the details of where they are buried
