If you want to install it now you don't have to wait as you can do so via this link from Microsoft:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Well at least that's started the download so I'll see what happens now.  Many thanks.

It downloaded the Windows 10 Setup pretty quickly and verified it, now it's creating Windows 10 media, I don't know how long the complete download takes, I guess there's a lot more to download yet.  I'm assuming that once downloaded, I don't need to start using it until I'm ready.

Lizzie: 1hr and 20minutes to complete install for me, then the learning curve on how to use.

Hi Brian

All downloaded now and it looks exactly almost the same as Windows 8.1, except I don't know where the Apps are, but as I never used them that doesn't matter.

The main difference is the icons on the task bar at the bottom of the screen are much smaller than the ones I had on 8.1 - although they are the same icons as I had previously.  I know there's a grey box marked "Search the web and Windows" which I wanted to shrink, as I thought that would give more room on the task bar and perhaps allow the other icons to be enlarged -  but I can't.  I also tried to enlarge the icons but can't do that either.  One other problem, whenever I shut down, or restart my laptop - which obviously happened when Windows 10 was being installed, a Skype icon comes up on the task bar.  With Windows 8.1 I could just "Quit Skype", I've got the option to do this now, but all that has happened is that instead of the Skype icon, I've now got an orange square - larger than the other icons on the task bar - with a white circle in it.  I can't get rid of it.  ???

The icons on the screen are the same size as previously.

Lizzie

I will wait and see how everyone goes with Windows 10, I have noticed the icon I had in the taskbar has now gone.

Have spent some time playing around and it doesn't seem all that different from Windows 8.1.

Except I now don't have to wiggle the mouse for ages trying to get the shut down button to appear :)
and I have rediscovered the snipping tool.  Never did find that in 8 or 8.1.

Much will depend on your broadband speed. Mine has taken 2 hours to download 12% at a very slow 1.5MB, which is about as good as it gets in our village. I believe the file size is about 4GB

Mike: Shame you can't find a friend with a quick connection! ::)
The fun starts when the download complete.

It seems theres a few of us on WIN 7 that have 'lost' the GWX (WIN 10) Icon - seems to have happened after a Windows Update single fix yesterday morning - think its KB2952664 - took out both my Laptop & Desktop (WIN7) GWX Icons, and on the Desktop lost any refns at all to the Download being Reserved .... also noticed that GWX.exe wasnt running anymore... so I restored to a level prior to yesterday's fix and the Icon is back on both PCs, but no sign of the Download starting yet (nor on my Neighbours Desktop WIN7, who reserved WIN 10 same day)
