1871 Census-Liverpool
« on: Friday 08 July 05 21:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Could some kind person look up details for 1871 census at (I think) 8 Denison St., Liverpool.  I believe the head of household should be Alexander PITBLADE born 1822 at Whitehaven, Cumberland.  Also there would be Margaret (wife) born 1821, Whitehaven and son John born 1850 (Liverpool).  They had several boarders and Johanna BEFF (sister in law).  I would like the reference number and details of the household if possible please.  PITBLADE had been transcribed as PITBLADIC in Ancestry.uk

Thank you

Jo3

Hi Laufi

Sorry about the delay in replying.  I'm assuming that you are a descendant of the Pladdy/Pitblade/Pittpladdy clan.  They seemed to change the name quite frequently early on, but if I can help I will.

Regards

Joan

Dear Joan

Thank you very much for your response.  I apologise again for seemingly "hunting" you down but I had only just joined RootsChat and was so excited to read a posting from you about the Pitblades.  Since it was dated 2004, I was anxious that I may not be able to contact you.

I believe that my ancestor William Bleddey may be the William Pitblady who was christened in Millom on 10 May 1764.  I have records of William having signed his name Bleddey, he has also been recorded in an official transcript as Bladie.  His mariage to Mary Cowperthwaite in Cartmel is recorded in the Parish Register as Bladdy.  The baptism of William and Mary's son John in Bassenthwaite is recorded as Bleddey but he is henceforth recorded as John Pitt Pladdy.  Am not sure how you could help in my quest to determine whether "my" William is the William of the Millom baptism but perhaps you may have unearthed something more about the family which may give me a lead.  William's story reads like a novel and I would gladly share it with you but it is quite lengthy so email me on (*) if you would like to hear more.
Kind regards
