heatherjulie, that baptism is of my grandfather who we know as John Dawson. I see online that they originally referred to him as Isaac, but at some point they started calling him John. So, he goes from being Isaac Brown to being John Dawson! Family members in Maine where I lived called him by his nickname, Jack. These folks back in the 1800s would never know how "fooling around" with their names would amount to confusion and many hours on the parts of their descendants trying to make sense of it all.
